Another delicious meal at Umberto's last night, with great service, a quiet table, and an unpretentious atmosphere. A side note, but important, they hit just the right note with the background music. Smooth jazz at just enough volume to enjoy. It was fairly quiet for a Thursday night, but the other half dozen or so tables were also filled with diners expressing their appreciation for a good meal. Beef carpaccio was, like all the dishes, the perfect size portion. My husband and I shared it well as the bruschetta, which was a little too cheesy for me but perfect for him. The chef salad is a great mix of greens and veg with a nice vinaigrette. The ostrich and kangaroo - what can I say - grilled/sauteed just beautifully and mouthwateringly delicious. The Shiraz reduction was a very nice accompaniment to the kangaroo. Both entrees were served with roasted veg and potatoes, nicely seasoned, as well as a charming little fresh vegetable relish/slaw on radicchio. Shared a bottle of 2009 Rosemount Cab Shiraz, chosen from the small but interesting wine list, proved a good choice. We lingered over tiramisu and flourless chocolate hazelnut cake, preferring the tiramisu. The "Umberto" specialty coffee was a lovely finish to the meal. Ingredients were fresh, attention was paid to presentation, and the service was very attentive yet not intrusive. We will definitely be back. Went here recently for a friday night out. Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in , until the minute we left. Our waitress, Maria , was outstanding. It was nice to walk in to a restaurant and be welcomed like family. We always enjoy the warm buns, it gives us something to munch on while waiting for our meal. We ordered the haddock and chips. The meal came out quick and piping hot. It was the best fish and chips we have had in recent memory. To top it off the apple crumble was exceptional. Kudos to Red Lobster and the staff for a job well done. Will be back soon. Lire plus

My 5 star rating is for the food and service. Romero's isn't a fancy place but the food is delicious Authentic Italian made from scratch. Great value for a delicious meal. I've never been inside, but they sometimes have a girl outside with a table of foil take-out dishes around dinner time, all for 3 dollars. It's one of the best values in Chinatown, just take it home and make your own rice. fast, convenient and I've never had anything I didn't like. They do, however, have bitter melon in about half the dishes. If there were more bitter melon-free dishes, I would certainly eat there more often. Lire plus

Even a snowstorm doesn't keep Toronto diners down, as we discovered last weekend at Jump in January. It was quieter than usual due to the weather, but our food was very good. We had an extremely affable waiter from England. The service started out a bit slow, with water poured and wine ordered but 25 minutes before some bread arrived. If we hadn't been so hungry beforehand we might not have noticed. Otherwise, the food was excellent. The Bacon-Wrapped Boneless Quail appetizer was absolutely delicious. The Wild & Tame Mushroom Soup was good, but as we told our server, it needed some cream to give it more depth and round out the taste. The Mahogany-Glazed Black Cod with Lentils was very good, and my partner had the delicious Beef Tenderloin. We'll come back again, but the pacing is a bit slow, so you can't be in a hurry if you're dining here. Lire plus
